1 year of blogging

Wow... 1 year ago today, it was a rainy, yucky 4th of July. I stayed home. BBQ's were cancelled, fireworks were cancelled, so I sat in front of my computer and started surfing the Internet for anything I could find about China and adoption. I had already started the process of trying to find an agency with a "singles" spot and had started talking about the prospect to my family. But that was all it was at that point was a "prospect". I had yet to find an agency to offer me a spot and therefore had not really started the process.

The first thing I found in my "surfing" was a blog written by another single girl, with the same goal. Shannon was 5 months LID already and I spent the entire day reading her blog, her links, and then decided to start my own. Hers was also the first comment I ever received.

Kristen, You are starting an amazing journey and there are lots of other people (singles included) that are more than willing to support you. How exciting to discover in your heart that your child is/will be waiting for you in China!
Not flesh of my flesh, Nor bone of my bone,
But still miraculously my own.
Never forget for a single minute,
You didn't grow under my heart - but in it

From that point on, so many people came into my life through this space of mine and I am forever grateful for that. I had many helpful suggestions about agencies, wait lists, and help to get things moving. It was from all of this help that I gained the knowledge I needed, became more aggressive in my research, and found an agency that offered me their only singles spot available.

It was the day after my birthday, August 15, 2006. And, it was Shannon's agency.

Since then, I have made many wonderful friends, gained massive amounts of knowledge about the world of International Adoptions, changed the face of this blog more times than I can remember, and ended up have this amazing journal of memories for Julia's scrapbook about my life in waiting, for the most precious gift a person could ever receive.

To all my faithful readers, (including my Pop, who I know reads daily!!) I thank you all for being with me throughout this journey, I hope to continue it with each and everyone of you while I wait for my dream to come true.

One year already?! What a sweet post. I am so thrilled that you are pursuing this dream and that we are able share our journey to our daughters together! Thank goodness for IA bloggy friends to support us throughout. Here's to shorter waits for our referrals so we can have more posts about our babies! =)

I remember when you first started. I remember many of us singles encouraging you to jump right in and actively search for a spot. I'm so glad you did... since you got a spot before the rule change.

Happy 1 Year! Looking forward to see you get your Julia someday.

Hi Kristen,
I just found your blog today. I am also single and adopting from China. My LID was 4/15/07. We could possibly be over there at the same time. I would love to talk to you some time. My email is mmorgan72@comcast.net. I look forward to hearing from you.

So cool! I'm coming up on my "first step" anniversary in August, when I finally got up the nerve to go to an informational meeting at CCAI!

What a difference a year makes, huh? Hang in there girl, our baby girls are waiting for us!
