Social Skills? or are we just having a craving?
The summer program that I work in is an ESY program for the special needs students in my district. It is primarly academic but we are allowed to throw in the occasional "mini-trip" so long as it has some academic relevance. I am team teaching with a friend of mine, due to the lack of available classrooms, so we have a combined class of 27. We decided we'd throw out a request to the program director to see if he'd let us take the kids to a local restaurant for lunch. We listed the academic application as using appropriate social skills when dining out. Can you believe it was APPROVED!!! So tomorrow while the rest of the school is completing some math or writing prompts, we'll be having lunch... on them!!! Summer school is not so bad!!

Have fun! That sounds like a great field trip.
27 students?! Wow, you guys are brave!! But what a better way to "polish" social skills than in a real setting? (BTW, I'm a Speech Therapist!) I applaud you for doing ESY...you deserve to give into a craving! Two birds, one stone. Hmmm, that's not the prettiest saying, but you know what I mean! =)
