A little bit less of me!

Wonderful Sunday Afternoon!!!

So.. most of you know I have a part time job every Sat & Sun to save money for the adoption.... for those that don't.. I work in the most AMAZING baby boutique that is owned by my mom's best friend. So needless to say, working a 7 day work week stinks... but I couldn't ask for a better way to spend my time than oogling over fantabulous baby clothes and babies themselves, all weekend long. Well this past weekend was WONDERFUL.

On Sunday, it was a pretty slow day, due to the 75-80 degree weather we are having at the shore.. in October. This woman walks in and I notice her in our book section reading a book we have on China Adoption... My Forever Family. So I ask, as I always do when someone picks up this book, "Do you know someone adopted from China?" She responds with a gleaming smile, "I just got home a month ago with my beautiful 14month old daughter, Sydney." So I proceed to tell her that I am LID and waiting. She then drops the book, runs out to her car where her husband is sitting with her sleeping daughter, wakes her up and rushes her in to introduce her. SHE WAS BREATHTAKING!!!

She then says to me "I know how you are feeling, here... hold her." And she hands me this beautiful bundle of tiny little baby. "I know you must need this, and I want to give you some hope" As I stood there holding Sydney, who at this point was nuzzling her head in my chest and patting my back as if she knew... I got teary. Then this woman, whom I still don't know her name, proceeds to hug me and tell me "Don't worry, this will all fade away the day you see her face, and every agonizing moment of the wait will be worth it." Sydney at this point lifted her head from my chest and gave me the most cheesy, scrunched up nose, smile, and blew me a kiss. OMG!!!!

I had such a hard time composing myself, and got more teary when they finally had to leave. She promised to return, even though she lives over two hours away and was just down the shore for the weekend, to check in with me and to bring Sydney back to visit.

I'm teary right now just writing about this and reliving it. It was such a surreal moment. I have met so many babies and toddlers adopted from China during this process, but it was like this woman was sent to me as a reminder. A total stranger, willing to give me hope.

I only wish that this unnamed woman knows what a gift she gave me yesterday.

I wish I could tell her Thank You. Again.

What an incredible woman. She knew exactly what you are going through and went out of her way to prove to you that it's going to be ok and worth it in the end. We all need to run into women like that and to become those women when our children are home.

The "pay it forward" advice is good. I've done this with my baby...we've been home almost a year. Some folks say that you'll forget the wait...well, the wait certainly IS worth it, but you don't forget what it was like not having your baby, and how LONG the journey to her was. I loved your story!!

Yeah, I'm sniffling, too! This wait is horrible. How lovely to have beautiful reminders of the reason why we are pushing forward.

Kristen,

Wow!!!! What a story! Capture that experience and recall it on all of those agonizing days when you wonder when you will be able to hold your daughter in your arms. Just think...it has already been six months!!

Thanks for sharing that story.
