Putting the "fun" back in dysfunctional

I often forget how much my mood affects my kids. Then there are just those days that are a reminder of why I love my job. Today was one of those days....

I am definitely one of those people that subscribes to "laughter being the best medicine". I believe myself to have a great sense of humor. I think it is the most important part of my job... when people say things to me like.. "how do you teach "those kids"? or "how do you "put up" with them all day?.. I often tell these people to just come and observe for a day... just listen and watch, it's pretty darn comical if you let it be just that. It's one of the most important things I try to instill in my boys... the ability to not take things so seriously all the time, and to be able to laugh at themselves. And laugh we do... on a daily basis. I know just how to "tease" them to lighten the mood when needed and to show them that somethings are just not worth getting angry over.

Well this last week was a pretty unusual one for me in regards to just not being myself.. I guess it lasted longer than they could handle. And like I said I sometimes forget how much I affect them.... So the end to my sullen mood was brought on by my students stepping into my role and stating to me today..

Ms. H.. Don't ya think it's about time you put the "Fun" back in Dysfunctional?

I couldn't agree more... ;o)

Wow... how cool, I envy your work, and feel like I live vicariously through you anytime you post about it... it's challenging, I am sure, but incredibly rewarding. Nice that you have such a close relationship with these kids... and I'm just like you, you have got to keep your sense of humor. I do it all the time with my cancer patients, and I think they so appreciate it (like it's a breath of fresh air, finally, someone who will really make me laugh... which I usually do by teasing them relentlessly!).
