as an aside, my boy is doing okay. not good, but hanging in there. He told me today, as we sat yet again privately talking, that I need to let it go. (WHAT... now my students are counseling me!!) What's done is done and he will get past it. He told me that I've taught him to be a man.. and he will do just that. Be a man that will never hurt someone the way he was hurt. He knows now that it serves nothing but pain. So with that... I helped him change the bandages, gave him a hug, and we continued our day. We did get to laugh a little over the role reversal... Stinkin kid!

Sorry to hear about your tough week. Stories like that bring tears to my eyes. On the positive side, some of my closest friends endured brutal abuse as children and have risen above it and gone to be amazingly successful and well-adjusted adults. With a lot of therapy and strong role models (like you!) kids can be amazingly resilient and overcome a LOT! I hope that is true for this boy...

You're a saint for all you see and endure and to still have such a soft compassionate heart. That boy will be a better person because of you... no matter what his past has been. You ARE helping him.
