It's days like today...

That remind me how meaningful it is to be a teacher...

My awesome principal decided to rearrange the entire school schedule so that every child would be able to watch the President Elect take his Oath of Office. The entire school took pause from 12pm until 1pm to watch this amazing historical moment in time. But in my little corner of the world, where we live in my room from the start of the day to the finish, with permission, the TV remained on for the entire day. We never missed a minute.

I threw aside my plan book and decided I would not teach today. I would watch and listen. For 5 hours my boys and I watched TV. It was as exciting for me to watch their interested faces as it was to watch the ceremonies take place. To know that they were witnessing such an incredible historical event, and being able to share it with them was more meaningful to me then any lesson I could have ever planned. They watched, they listened, they asked meaningful questions, and commented on the things I hoped they would comment on.

Even if they don't understand the significance of it at this moment, I know that one day, they will look back and remember this moment in time and how important it was to be a part of it. It was nothing short of inspirational.

Congratulations Mr. President

What an awesome move on the part of your principal. We got a snow day despite no snow here. I hope some of the kids were watching and not just playing their video games. We have an awesome country and our students need to understand and uphold that. After my recent travels I can see this more than ever. Glad you had lots of teaching moments. =)

And teachers like you will forever be in the minds of the students you taught. I'm so glad you gave that to your boys, my son didn't get to watch any of it until we came home, I'm so glad I recorded the entire event!
